Andrew Goudelock

I saw an interview where he said he always has gone by Drew and not Andrew and that's what people always call him. So isn't that the correct name?Bluesangrel (talk)

@Bluesangrel: Misplaced Pages follows WP:COMMONNAME, using the most common name that sources refer to a person as. If you think it is now “Drew”, consider opening an WP:RM first before changing links. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 19:11, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Well, according to his official Facebook and Twitter it's Drew, but I didn't really think it was necessary to move the article. So you can't list him as Drew ever in any edit without the article being moved?Bluesangrel (talk) 19:14, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

@Bluesangrel: Generally, it’s better to be consistent and use the most common name, which is presumably the page’s title. If the pages’s name is not the most common, RM is the least controversial way to establish consensus.—Bagumba (talk) 19:21, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Dwight Howard

Hello, I just want to let you know that Dwight Howard was just traded on June 20, 2018 to the Brooklyn Nets. He was traded in exchange for Timofey Mozgov, the 45th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, and a 2021 second round pick. This is some new information that can be added, so there really isn't anything to change. You could also change the heading "Charlotte Hornets (2017-present)" to (2017-2018). You could also create a new heading with the previous info, Brooklyn Nets (2018-present).

@Chloe2330: We typically dont rely solely on breaking news, and at a minimum want it attributed to named—not anonymous—sources. You can refer to WP:SPORTSTRANS. BIG3 colors in basketball biography infobox

Given that consensus is not to add BIG3 teams to the infobox, could you remove them from Module:Basketball color/data? This might discourage folks from adding these teams as the primary affiliation. I also have questions about if we need defunct NBA, G League, WNBA, etc. teams in there as well since for retired players Consensus is to keep the default gray box. Why did you remove the NBA records tab from Kareem?

I followed the same format as the one used on the Wilt Chamberlain page where NBA records were denoted near the bottom of the page.

@Drdrepepper: As I had written in the edit summaryof the revert, it is based on WP:NBAHIGHLIGHTS, which says Some items for which there has been consensus to exclude from the infobox include: ... NBA career statistical leaders. Regarding Chamberlain, "other stuff exists" is not always a valid argument. I will remove them from both as you suggested.—Bagumba (talk) 17:18, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

@NE Ent: I do not believe I was pushing a personal bias in protecting the page, which was flipping back and forth, was largely unsourced, or was inaccurately equating an “agreement” as an actual signing. At Talk:LeBron_James#Lakers, there is a neutral idea to write that an “agreement” was reached without implying that he was signed yet. However, I honestly don’t see a consensu yet, especially with so many other people insisting this is a done deal and others saying no updates should be done at all. My suggestion would be for you to help form a consensus at the talkpage, and then ask another uninvolved admin to make the desired edit. If you believe the protection is undue, you can make a request to reduce it at WP:RFRPL. Barring all that, an official announcment will likely be made by the Lakers as early as Friday. Guideline and policy news

• An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
• A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.

Technical news

• Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Misplaced Pages. For more information, please review the FAQ.
• Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Misplaced Pages. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
• IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Misplaced Pages in July (previously scheduled for June). This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.

• Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
