== Your RM closure ==

There is a dispute about the outcome of RM discussion at ]. I don't know why this RM discussion was not listed at relevant WP Projects, which would bring it to attention of wider community. Somehow only a very small group of editors participated in very short discussion. I think it was about everything else but renaming. It started as some kind of size split discussion and ended with consensus:
# to basically reduce the scope of the major topic article and
# to ] the article with major topic
# to ban creation of splinter articles

In your RM closure you did not mention any of above three points (). That opens space for different interpretations and dispute of the outcome this RM discussion. Some editors interpret the above discussion only as renaming which does not ban or prevent the creation of splinter articles nor article on major topic.
There are editors who believe that RM discussion ended with community consensus on above mentioned three points. Can you please clarify the outcome of RM discussion.--] (]) 18:01, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mahveotm I'm contacting you because you recently removed my edit on Hat Puzzle. I would like to know why my edit on the term Hat Puzzle was removed. You said it seems I was using that edit to test, but I did not use it as a test. I think it's another way to approach the 10-hat problem. Could you put my solution back up? Thank you.Mikewiki2520 (talk) 01:35, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mahveotm I would like to create an article entitled - "Frank Santora"

Here is the body of article -

Frank Santora is the lead pastor of Faith Church in New Milford , Connecticut. One of the few mega churches in New England. With almost five thousand members. He is a host on the TBN world wide television network. He is the author of three books - - Turn It Around - Identity Crisis - After You Die

He is a co-author of over twenty songs. He is the architect of Faith Village. A neighborhood built to house the families who were victims of Hurricane Sandy.

TBN television link to Frank Santora's page :

https://www.tbn.org/people/frank-santora

The magazine New Yorker gives a basic introduction. See the following link :

Hi Gary wiki, thanks for contacting me! If what you say(write) is true, then you might want to read this to see if he's probably notable. As per regarding helping to write the article, I'm sorry I won't be able to do that right now as I'm really busy off Wiki. As your previous AfC submission was declined, you might want to add more Reliable sources and also disclose if you have any conflict of interest with the subject. Further questions might be channeled here where a bunch of friendly guys will provide you an answer quick enough. You might want to consider creating a section next time (I've refused to refactor this). Regards, Mahveotm (talk) 21:52, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mahveotm, I am friends with Wayne Winsley who does have his biography on Misplaced Pages. Frank Santora is far more accomplished, so it does surprise me that there is no article about Frank Santora on Misplaced Pages.

DYK for Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset

On 2 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1860, Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset became the first Inspector General of Police in Queensland? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Edric Norfolk Vaux Morisset), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Re: July 2018

Hello, I added a section on West Africa Examination page, I will really like why it was removed by you as I only added a reference to backup my claim that the examination for the 2017/2018 was released in Nigeria. Please I need the backup of the edit as I can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the content strictly follows Misplaced Pages guidelines on reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NIgeriaIssues (talkcontribs) 21:29, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Stormy Chamber, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Misplaced Pages's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Moving pages through protection

Hi, Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Technical requests is the best place to ask. I'd move the page myself but I've been involved in the discussion and others have kicked up a fuss in the past about admins in such circumstances implementing others' closes. Timrollpickering 21:52, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Module:AfC

You cannot move that module page! There are many pages that reference it, as well as bots and automated tools that reference and insert the invocations by referencing the current name (AfC). The move broke a bunch of templates and I had to move it back in order to resolve the issues.... There are bots (such as EarwigBot) that automatically update pages like Template:AFC statistics by invoking this module. The move broke this and many other pages and these bots and automated tools are not updated to use what would be the new name that you want to change this to. They need to be updated first before we consider a move like this... ~Oshwah~ 22:08, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

This error is very concerning. First, there was nearly no participation at the move request, so that the discussion should have been relisted and advertised in appropriate technical fora. Second, Mahveotm moved the module without leaving a redirect, creating havoc as noted by Oshwah, with no rationale as to why the original title should not be preserved and redirected. In an unrelated instance today (which took me here in the first place), Mahveotm closed a very delicate discussion about Meghan Markle's name change, with a poorly explained rationale for their decision to move, and without the ability to perform the move because the article is move-protected. The close was promptly reverted citing WP:BADNAC. Together, these blatant errors should in my opinion lead to revocation of Mahveotm's page mover right, per criterion #2 of WP:PMRR. I have not looked into the user's move history to check for earlier mistakes. @TonyBallioni: You made this user a page mover on 19 November 2017, noting at the time: A big part of the page mover tool is being able to user discretion as to when moves should be done, both in the RM process and on your own. What do you think of Mahveotm's conduct? — JFG 23:14, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Looks like he moved some other modules too which broke some maps. Natureium (talk) 23:28, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, those two errors are big enough that I’ve revoked the page mover permission. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:46, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

For technical reasons, redirects cannot exist in module namespace, and therefore all moves of modules do not leave redirects behind and can be done by non-page-movers. This means that there was no abuse of the page mover right. I'm not denying that Mahveotm broke things, but he didn't use any kind of advanced permissions (other that autoconfirmed) to do so. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 11:05, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

It's still extraordinarily poor judgement that resulted in errors. The criteria don't require that redirect suppression be used, but just sufficiently poor judgement in moving pages. TonyBallioni (talk) 12:24, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
@TonyBalloni, I think you're missing the point here. I applied for PageMover here, because I thought I could help at the backlog. I then saw a Module Requested move with no objections, long overdue. Closing instructions also specifically states that Unlike articles for deletion, where lack of participation requires relisting, no minimum participation is required for requested moves because for most moves there is no need to make a request at all; the need arises only because of a technical limitation resulting from the target article name existing as a redirect with more than one edit. Thus, if no one has objected, go ahead and perform the move as requested unless it is out of keeping with naming conventions or is otherwise in conflict with applicable guidelines or policy. I remember you also telling me ..RMs do not require a quorum to move.. when approving my request. I acted exactly in line with your advice and what the policy dictates. As Pppery said, there was no way anyone could move Modules and leaving a redirect and the second error . I made just two good faith attempt at moving discussions nobody else was commenting on again, and woke up to see a removal of my tool. I respect your decision Tony, and always will, but I think you made the wrong call in this instance. I'd ping admins/editors whose decision I respect as regards page move/PERM (@Kudpung:, @Dekimasu:, @Bd2412:, @Nihlus:, @Xaosflux:, @SMcCandlish:, @Winged Blades of Godric:, @Alex Shih:, @Primefac: and also @Oshwah: too, because he came here to drop a friendly note about a move of mine, which he reverted due to technical issues (He even said he supported the move, but wants everything to be cleared off first) and then it was hijacked and my tool was removed.
P.S PageMover right is not required to move templates without redirect.
Cheers,
Mahveotm (talk) 13:50, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
I'm fine with a reapplication for page mover, and wouldn't consider it wheel warring if someone were to grant it as a new admin action if there was a sufficient case made. I think JFG's concerns above were enough to merit revoking, especially since it was a borderline grant to begin with (especially if we actually believe in easy come, easy go for this permission like everyone says we do.) My concern is that these were sufficiently large errors in judgement in an area you were not familiar with that you should have left to someone else, and that there was also a similar situation going on at Markel where it simply didn't make sense to close such a high-profile move, especially without checking the history or the protection status. The concern isn't with misuse of the tool, but that sufficient care wasn't shown in making moves that did cause mistakes, and that this happened on at least two occasions. Tha is enough in my view to remove for now, again, with you being free to reapply at some point at PERM. TonyBallioni (talk) 15:27, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi, since I was pinged. Modules and to some extent templates that are more for "function" then for "content" require extra care when modifying. While gathering a strong consensus is not usually needed for things like the name of these modules (as they are transparent to readers) - ensuring the modifications/moves do not create functional issues is important. This is quite the opposite of the considerations for say the title of an article. — xaosflux 14:06, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
    • Agreed that they do require more care. However, I'm not sure I would have remember that about Modules, on a bad day. This is the kind of mistake (esp. given the feedback) that someone learns from! >;-)  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:59, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
I agree with SMcCandlish that this was an honest mistake that can be easily overlooked if you're not familiar with the template or module territory, and I don't hold it against Mahveotm (or anybody for that matter) to make an honest mistake in good faith so long as you learn from it. Nobody is perfect... they happen. It's a normal part of learning and gaining experience; you have to make your mistakes, get your battle scars, and take those lumps as a positive learning experience and move forward from it. So long as the mistakes aren't repeated, I think it's fair that everybody gets a mulligan (and of course a trout) sometimes. I obviously haven't dug into anybody's move or edit history here, so I'm not sure if this is repeated or not... but the thing to take away from this is exactly what I stated on Mahveotm's talk page and the AfC module talk page: you have to be careful with these namespaces and be extra diligent and use extreme caution when making changes to highly referenced and invoked objects like this. Unfortunately, Mahveotm learned this the hard way but I want to try and invoke reason here and encourage everyone participating here to be understanding and know that Mahveotm probably feels very shitty about what happened... let's of course try and make sure it doesn't happen again, but remember that there's a person on the other side of that monitor and keyboard and behind the username :-) ~Oshwah~ 16:00, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
I'm all for second chances, and I'll leave admins to decide whether to re-instate Mahveotm's page mover right. My personal inclination would be to request a renewed application from him, where he would have an opportunity to demonstrate what he has learned from yesterday's two incidents. Yes, everybody can have a bad day, I hope that's all there is to it. — JFG 16:13, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
My thoughts as well, and like I said, my choice was in part based on the commentary at the initial perm request: this was a borderline granting of the right, and the concerns were big enough that removing made sense in my view because of the judgement concerns with moves. Markle move

Breaking this off into a seperate section so they can understand my concern I'd like to talk about the Move closure you attempted to perform. First, there's "Bad Non-Administrator close". Second that page was the cause of a Jimmy Wales (you know the sad guy on the "donate to wikipedia" banners) action to move it from the previous name to the Duchess name. The community had a collective conniption because of the out of process move (Administrator's Noticeboard thread, Village pump thread, RFC, etc) trying to rectify the issue. As a non-admin you should have stayed away from attempting to close the discussion because it was already a red-hot drama magnet. Hasteur (talk) 16:46, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Your RM closure

There is a dispute about the outcome of RM discussion at Talk:World War II persecution of Serbs. I don't know why this RM discussion was not listed at relevant WP Projects, which would bring it to attention of wider community. Somehow only a very small group of editors participated in very short discussion. I think it was about everything else but renaming. It started as some kind of size split discussion and ended with consensus:

  1. to basically reduce the scope of the major topic article and
  2. to delete trough renaming the article with major topic
  3. to ban creation of splinter articles

In your RM closure you did not mention any of above three points (diff). That opens space for different interpretations and dispute of the outcome this RM discussion. Some editors interpret the above discussion only as renaming which does not ban or prevent the creation of splinter articles nor article on major topic. There are editors who believe that RM discussion ended with community consensus on above mentioned three points. Can you please clarify the outcome of RM discussion.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 18:01, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
