Sarah Jeong (born 1988) is an American journalist specializing in law and technology topics. Jeong is a senior writer for The Verge and in September 2018 joins the editorial board of The New York Times. She was previously a contributing editor for Vice's Motherboard section.

Early life

Jeong was born in South Korea and moved to New York with her parents when she was three years old. She attended the University of California Berkeley and Harvard Law School, where she was editor of Harvard Journal of Law & Gender.

Career

Jeong writes on law, technology and internet culture. She is a senior writer for The Verge and previously served as a contributing editor for Vice's Motherboard section, as well as writing articles for Forbes, the Guardian and The New York Times. In 2014, Jeong and Electronic Frontier Foundation activist Parker Higgins launched a periodic newsletter called "5 Useful Articles", offering a wry take on intellectual property issues, current and historical. The newsletter went on hiatus in 2015. In 2016, Jeong published a book, The Internet of Garbage, on online harassment and responses to it by media and online platforms. The book discusses active moderation and community management strategies to improve online interactions.

In 2017, Forbes named Jeong to its "30 Under 30" media list.

Jeong has been appointed to the New York Times editorial board, to begin in September 2018. She will be the lead writer on technology.
