Under Rug Swept is the sixth album by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, released by Maverick Records in the United States on February 26 2002 (see 2002 in music). It was the first album Morissette had written and produced on her own.

After the relative failure of Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998) compared to Morissette's international debut album Jagged Little Pill (1995), Maverick Records executives were concerned about her decline in popularity continuing with her third album, and initially there were contract disputes between them and Morissette. For a time she considered leaving Maverick until label founder Madonna intervened and changed her mind. After this period, she previewed a song on her website called "Utopia", which she decided to share after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. "Hands Clean" was released to radio as the album's first single in early 2002, and it received substantial airplay.

Reviews of the album upon its release were mostly positive, with some saying it was more polished and closer to Jagged Little Pill than its predecessor. Other reviews said Morissette was still "too far outside the box" to really connect with the mainstream, and that the success of her first album was a fluke. Under Rug Swept débuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 215,000 copies in its first week. It held the spot for a week, stayed in the top twenty for five weeks and on the chart for twenty-four. As of 2006 it had sold a million copies in the U.S., continuing Morissette's sales decline, and neither second single "Precious Illusions" nor a world tour later that year picked up the album's sales.

After "Precious Illusions" failed on the charts, Maverick did not commercially release any more singles from the album. Promotional singles were issued internationally: "Flinch" and "So Unsexy" in Brazil, "21 Things I Want in a Lover" in Latin America, "Surrendering" in Canada, and "Utopia" in the U.S..
