A gimp suit is a fetishistic garment designed to cover the body completely (usually including the hands and feet) and to be very close-fitting. It often has an attached hood; if not, it will be worn with a bondage hood or gimp mask. The name derives from an association with gimps.
It may be made from rubber, PVC, spandex, darlex or leather, although leather (not being stretchy) cannot be as close-fitting as the others.
It differs from a catsuit, unitard or zentai more in its purpose than its appearance. It is used in BDSM to objectify the wearer and reduce them to the status of a sexual toy, rather than a sexual partner. Unless there are suitably placed zips, the genitals will be inaccessible while the suit is worn.
An extreme variation of the suit is worn in the movie The People Under the Stairs.
