Welcome, roadfan!

Hello, Peterjack1, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. If you need help, check out Misplaced Pages:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or click here to ask a question on your talk page.

If you are interested, there is already a community of users who are roadfans or who edit articles about roads, just like you! Stop by any of these WikiProjectsWP:HWY (worldwide), WP:AURD (Australia), WP:CARD (Canada), WP:HKRD (Hong Kong), WP:INRD (India), WP:UKRD (United Kingdom), or WP:USRD (United States)—and contribute. If your interest is in roads in the United States, there is an excellent new user's guide. There is a wealth of information and resources for creating a great article. If you have questions about any of these WikiProjects, you can ask on each project's talk page, or you can ask me!

If you like communicating through IRC, feel free to ask questions at #wikipedia-en-roads as well. Here, there are several editors who are willing to answer your questions. For more information, see WP:HWY/IRC.

Again, welcome! Rschen7754 18:05, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

New York State Thruway infobox

It's been a long-standing practice to limit the number of junctions listed in an American highway article's infobox. This is documented at WP:USRD/STDS. Please stop adding junctions in excess of the limits to the infobox on New York State Thruway. If you disagree with the limit, please discuss it at WT:USRD. Imzadi 1979  01:19, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

We're having the same issue now at Taconic State Parkway. You keep restoring a 12th junction to the infobox, when you should be eliminating another to get the box back under the 10-jct limit. Imzadi 1979  17:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
@Peterjack1: can you please respond? --Rschen7754 18:17, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Do you work for Misplaced Pages?

Hey, do you actually work for Misplaced Pages or is your road editing organization non official? Because if it’s non-official than I don’t think that you have the right to police articles and pick fights with people adding information that’s accurate. However if you are part of Misplaced Pages and the rules you tell me are official, then I apologize.

Peter Peterjack1 (talk) 03:21, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

This is Misplaced Pages. None of us work for them, but Misplaced Pages is governed by consensus, and a consensus decided to limit the number of junctions in a U.S. road article. If you disagree with this, you are welcome to start another discussion to see what people think.
For what it's worth, I see a lot of new editors obsessing over the infobox when quite often, the rest of the article is crap. I would suggest that your time is better spent on the other 95% of the article. --Rschen7754 05:59, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
There's no "official" or "unofficial" around here. We're all volunteers, and as Rschen mentions, the entire site works based on consensus. Over a decade ago, when an article was nominated at WP:FAC to be listed as a Featured Article, reviewers commented about the excessive length of the infobox. As a result, the U.S. Roads WikiProject standard has been to use a 10-jct limit in article infoboxes. While it's important to get the infobox right, it's really a summary of the article, so it's more important to get the details in the article text right first. Disambiguation link notification for October 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Massachusetts Route 2, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages US 5 and Cold River (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:08, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Minor edits

Hi! Make sure to not mark non-minor edits as minor, as you've marked many in your recent contributions. See WP:MINOR -- it's for edits that don't change content and tells other editors that no review is needed. —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 09:13, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi I'd like to second this. Minor edits are for superficial edits, generally typographical. Edits that are adding or modifying content should not be marked minor. Thanks for contributing edits! Just please follow conventions to help us all work together better. --Cyanophycean314 (talk) 06:08, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Browser on highway articles

You're adding browsers (the previous/next) to the bottoms of the infoboxes on national-level articles. We just don't do that. That's something that's only been done at the state level. US 8 is considered both a national- and state-level article because we won't split out separate state-level articles for it. That's why it has the browsers for the previous and next highways in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. For US 7, no, we wouldn't point it back to US 6 and forward to US 8. We also wouldn't add browsers that point to unnumbered parkways in New York because there's no clear connection on why they're the preceding or succeeding entry in a larger list of numbered highways.

In short, I advise you to stop, and if you have a plan, discuss it somewhere first, like WT:USRD. Imzadi 1979  03:25, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

The browser is to link to the previous highway by numerical designation and to the next one by numerical designation. So that's why M-28 (Michigan highway) links back to M-27 and forward to M-29. It has nothing to do with the highways at the termini, and this is documented at WP:USRD/STDS. Imzadi 1979  04:24, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Edits on Interstate 88 (New York)

Hi. You have been making a number of edits on the exit lists of the Interstate 88 (New York) page. Please note that as stated in WP:USRD/STDS, for a grade-separated interchange, the exit list should document only the official interchange information. This means that exits should be in concordance with how government agencies officially present them. This also concurs with WP:NOR, which states that you cannot add original research to Misplaced Pages. While I understand that you're trying to help by adding information that could be useful to some people, the various road-related projects have maintained these standards to provide consistency across thousands of articles. I encourage you to read through them. Thanks.Vmanjr (talk) 12:38, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have recently shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect: any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or any page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
