Marsh Family
Randy and Sharon Marsh
Randy and Sharon (originally "Carol") Marsh are the parents of Stan, and his exceptionally violent sister Shelley.
Main article: Randy and Sharon MarshSharon Marsh is a receptionist at Tom's Rhinoplasty and Randy is a geologist. During his younger years Randy was a member of a briefly successful boy band "Ghetto Avenue Boys" and retains a penchant for singing and dancing. Randy frequently displays impulsiveness and irrationality, summed up well in the ability to take something 'too far', time and again. There are several episodes in which he features as a main character. He tends to be a leader in one of the groups of citizens when they protest or fight each other, usually the side representing the "Democrat" point of view (i.e I'm A Little Bit Country).
Stan Marsh
Main article: Stan MarshStanley "Stan" Marsh is one of the central characters in the animated television series South Park. Voiced by series co-creator Trey Parker, Stan and Kyle Broflovski often trade places as the 'leader' of the four main characters. Stan is arguably the most normal of the kids, and is generally honest, very mature for his age, and well-meaning. He is somewhat more assertive than his best friend Kyle.
Shelley Marsh
Main article: Shelley MarshShelly is a violent twelve-year-old with an awkward set of headgear braces. She enjoys watching "Friends", listening to Britney Spears records, dating older men, beating up Stan, and calling him and his friends "turds." Despite the mutual dislike between Shelly and the boys, she and Eric Cartman formed a cease-fire in the episode "Cat Orgy" and get back at Shelly's boyfriend, Skyler, who is twenty-two years old and was only dating her for sex (she refused and he dumped her).
Grampa Marsh
Main article: Grampa Marsh"Grampa" Marvin Marsh is the elderly patriarch of the Marsh family, and lives with the Marsh family. He is 102 years old and confined to a wheelchair. He is somewhat senile and calls Stan "Billy". He has been referred to as both Sharon and Randy's father.
Jimbo Kern
Main article: Jimbo KernStan's uncle Jimbo Kern, Randy's half brother, represent South Park's large population of stereotypical "hicks". Him and his sidekick Ned Gerblansky are are obsessed with large trucks, beer, guns, explosions, and killing animals. They detest "liberals" and circumvent anti-hunting laws by yelling "it's coming right at us!" before shooting any animal, thereby justifying the kill as self defense.
Jimbo and Ned met while in the Vietnam War, where Jimbo was a helicopter pilot.
Broflovski Family
Gerald and Shiela Broflovski
Main article: Gerald and Sheila BroflovskiGerald is the father and head of the family. His occupation as a lawyer has given him high status in profile cases such as in episodes like Sexual Harassment Panda and Chef Aid. As The Simpsons's character Ned Flanders satirizes Christian fundamentalism, Gerald Broflovski satirizes Jewish fundamentalism.
Sheila is Gerald's wife and the matriarch of the family. She is often noted for (and sometimes notoriously remembered) her political correctness and strong belief in moral values. Sheila often pushes her son Kyle to "always do the right thing" and abstain from immorality. Viewers can see her strong belief in her principles especially in South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. She maybe a satirization of the conservative side of the political spectrum.
Kyle
Main article: Kyle BroflovskiKyle is the central character in the family. He is one of the show's four main children along with Stan, Cartman, and Kenny (though Butters was elevated to main character status since Butter's Very Own Episode). Kyle tends to be the most logical, rational, and resonable boy among the four. He often abstains from certain fads exeplified in Chinpokomon and South Park is Gay!.
