Markus Rosenberg born September 27, 1982 in Malmö) is a Swedish footballer. As of 2005, he has played ten games and scored four times for the Swedish national team.
Biography
He began his playing career with Malmö FF, although he struggled to hold down a first-team place and in 2004 he was loaned to Halmstads BK. Playing for Halmstad he became the top scorer of the 2004 season. Back in Malmö, he also topped the Royal League 2004-05 scoring list. His nickname is Mackan.
From of the beginning of the 2005/2006 season he has played for Ajax Amsterdam. He was transferred for a fee of 5 million Euros, by Ajax-coach Danny Blind. He started well at Ajax, scoring at his debut against Brondby IF in the Champions League qualifiers, and scoring at his competition-debut against RBC Roosendaal. After that, his performances dropped, until just before the winter-break. Then, Ajax played in a 4-4-2 system with Rosenberg and Charisteas as strikers, instead of a 4-3-3 system with Rosenberg as only central-striker. In the winter-break, Huntelaar was transferred to Ajax for 9 million Euros as the new striker to get Ajax back to the top. This caused Rosenberg to focus his attention on the position of left-wing attacker in the 4-3-3 system. He started to play very well in this system in combination with Huntelaar and Ajax had a strong second half of the season in which they won the Cup and secured a position in the Champions League qualifiers for next season.
The start of 2006-2007 was not good for Rosenberg, he had been in the Sweden squad for the 2006 worldcup in Germany, but he didn't play much. At Ajax he was now 2nd or 3rd choice in the squad of new coach Ten Cate, and he only occasionally played as a substitute. Altough he scored 3 times in 2 UEFA Cup appearances, he appeared to be out of shape and out of favour with Ten Cate.
