Erik Bornmann was a registered lobbyist with Pilothouse Public Affairs, a company he operated with Brian Kieran, when in December 2003 his Vancouver apartment was searched in conjunction with a wide-ranging police investigation. According to political commentator Bill Tieleman, writing about Bornmann in a 2005 article:
"The search-warrant "information to obtain" or ITO released by police in September 2004 claimed that Bornmann offered Basi and Virk a benefit -- help in obtaining $100,000-plus jobs with the federal Liberal government -- in exchange for obtaining confidential information about the BCRail deals" (Spiderman in a Web of Intrigue , The Tyee.ca, May 10, 2005).

Despite Bornmann's apparent implication in the illegal activity of offering an inducement, he has yet to face charges and will appear as a witness for the Crown. While involved as a key player in one of the most high profile cases of alleged government corruption in B.C. history, Bornmann has been studying for a career as a lawyer. Bornmann, who added an extra 'n' to his last name after moving to Ontario, will have to face a public hearing regarding his character before being admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada.
