Island plot summary

Template:Spoiler The activities of the Others immediately prior to the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 are revealed, as they are shown to have been living in modern suburban houses in a previously unseen section of the island. Their leader appears to be Ben, known as Henry Gale among the survivors. He claims to have lived on the island his entire life, but he does have an awareness of the outside world.

Jack, Kate and Sawyer are imprisoned under surveillance by Ben's cameras on an island offshore from the island where they had lived previously. Kate and Sawyer are kept in outdoor cages, and at one point have sex. Jack is kept inside the “Hydra,” an underwater DHARMA Initiative station. He is interrogated by an Other named Juliet, who does not show the same reverence to Ben as the rest of the Other do. Jack finds out that Ben has a spinal tumour, and the operation Ben needs is the main reason for Jack’s captivity. During Ben’s surgery, Jack incises Ben's kidney sack, which will kill Ben in the next hour unless Jack repairs it. This forces Tom into letting Jack use his walkie talkie to contact Kate, and inform her that she and Sawyer have an hour to escape.

Hurley informs the survivors of the capture of Jack, Kate and Sawyer, whom Locke promises to rescue. Hoping to communicate with the Others, Locke returns to the Pearl hatch with a group. Among the group is Desmond, who survived the hatch’s implosion and has gained the ability to see the future. They repair the various television monitors and see an eyepatch-wearing occupant of a yet-unknown hatch under surveillance. The “smoke monster” takes the form of Eko's deceased brother, and lures Eko into the jungle. The smoke monster then returns to its primary form and beats Eko to death. Locke notices an inscription on Eko's "Jesus stick" quoting the Bible, telling Locke to "Lift up eyes and look north."

The survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 have now been stranded on the island for 73 days at the end of the sixth episode.
