Die Zeit, die Tag und Jahre macht

Happy 2019 -

begin it with music and memories

Thank you for your help last year, and your good wishes! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:46, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Please check out "Happy" once more, for a smile, and sharing (a Nobel Peace Prize), and resolutions. I wanted that for 1 January, but then wasn't sad about having our music pictured instead. Not too late for resolutions, New Year or not. DYK that he probably kept me on Misplaced Pages, back in 2012? By the line (which brought him to my attention, and earned the first precious in br'erly style) that I added to my editnotice, in fond memory? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Manic memories

At the risk of offending your aesthetic sensibilities, here's another version of happy. Those were the daze.... Sca (talk) 16:51, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Lovely!! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:09, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Please stop your disruption

As you well know, newspapers and websites have their own Manuals of Style, and we have ours. If you have an issue with ours then take it up at that page, not repeating the same issue at Errors. Stephen 22:32, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Stephen: No newspapers I know of use the numerals 'style' dictated by WP:MOS. I'm not traipsing off to MOS to try to convince whoever misguidedly devised this policy of what is obvious. Cases in point:
 • AP: "a gasoline explosion killed at least 79 people"
 • BBC: "Mexican authorities now say at least 79 people were killed in Friday night's fuel pipeline blast."
 • Guardian: "The death toll from the explosion of a pipeline ruptured by suspected fuel thieves in central Mexico has risen to 73"
 • Reuters: "at least 79 people died from a powerful explosion at a gasoline pipeline in central Mexico"
 • New York Times: "thieves punctured a pipeline north of Mexico City, causing an explosion that killed at least 79 people and injured 81 others."
– Again, no website is an island, entire to itself. As to "disruption" – WP:CENS. – Sca (talk) 22:52, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
But this website follows it's own MOS. And yes, disruption. Just as you've been accused of disruption on previous occasions by raising the same non-issues over and over again. Stephen 22:57, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
But Stephen, it's not a non-issue. It's a glaring and continuing anomaly, and it's been noticed by others as well. Since the item is still on the top blurb in ITN on the Main Page, your deletion of my comments looks like censoring debate over an editorial topic that is ongoing. Witness today's AP story:
Death toll reaches 85 in Mexico fuel pipeline fire horror
TLAHUELILPAN, Mexico (AP) — People in the town where a gasoline explosion killed at least 85 people say the section of pipeline that gushed fuel has been a habitual gathering site for thieves, repeatedly damaged and patched like a trusty pair of jeans.
"It was the popular tap," said Enrique Cerron, 22, who lives near the field. "You could pass by at 11 or 12 in the morning and see people filling up here."
I understand your dilemma. You're doing what you perceive as your duty, and doing it conscientiously and efficiently. But in policing WP:ERRORS and defending this blunder in the MOS as you have, you're living – or at least acting – in denial, IMO. – Sca (talk) 14:07, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
If you take this to the MOS people, please be prepared to discuss their favorite references, like this. With them of course, not me! If you have newspaper experience, you've gotta know that Misplaced Pages:IDIDNTHEARTHAT doesn't get things done in any organization. Art LaPella (talk) 18:40, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
Art, I'm not going into that Tar-Baby venue. The policy is stupid. If users can't see that ... too bad. I've said what I have to say. I'm not beating my head against a brick wall, or beating a dead horse either.

Bob Dylan super bowl ad

Hey Sca, thanks for sharing the link to Budweiser superbowl ad. I didn't know they brought the clydesdales and I wouldn't have if you'd not shared it. Cheers and have a great weekend. --LaserLegs (talk) 18:11, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Glad to know you find it so fascinating. Sca (talk) 18:13, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Clearly in over my head? Y fuera de mi cabeza la mayor parte del tiempo. But we struggle on. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:59, 19 February 2019 (UTC) .... blimey, and people are surprised there's so much controversy about getting a second vote on Brexit? And here's one au naturel.

I am underwhelmed. Sca (talk) 23:02, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

The joke was on me, there was no one even there to bluff. Sca (talk) 22:58, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Ooh look, it's our Ron. Here's something else you may enjoy, with that other Ronnie. A great album. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:17, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes, that last one was very good (if a bit echoey) and a real laster it must be said. The crowd seemed to enjoy it! (There's also "Pete Townshend & Eddie Vedder - Heart To Hang Onto - The Late Show with David Letterman - 07/28/1999" from the same album if you care to look for it, but I can't link to it as it seems to be copyvio "lol".) Martinevans123 (talk) 23:33, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Re "laster", yours truly used to hear Tony Glover, Dave Rae and John Koerner at a Minneapolis dive called the Triangle Bar when he was a student at the (U.S. style) university. It was sort of a Lightning Bar Blues milieu, late '60s counterculture style. – Sca (talk) 15:09, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Different notes

On a much different note, my current online heart-throb is Hélène Grimaud. Sca (talk) 15:21, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

What beautiful playing. Thanks for those links (and I don't mean of Bobby Zimmerframe, either).

Can you believe she's almost 50? – Sca (talk) 22:10, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Frankly, no. That is astonishing. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:14, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
And she raises wolves, too. An unconventional person of huge talent. Her Chopin is positively ethereal. Sca (talk) 22:25, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes, that makes a change. I'm sure she's always welcome in London. I wonder if she actually likes chow mein? Martinevans123 (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
From what I've seen, Grimaud performs mainly in Western Europe. I've seen interviews with her in French, English and German on YTube. – Sca (talk) 00:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Maybe we'll get to see her on Strictly? Martinevans123 (talk) 15:28, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Previn, usw.

I came to just thank you for the precise description of pulling Previn as amateurish, and support for Kinkel (well, I did much more for Schneyder who didn't even have an aricle, but at least he was posted just minutes later), and for generally saying things to the point. - (I have a thead on my talk which is still long after I archived much of it, - well, "long" is even in the header.) - Grimaud: I'm also an admirer, heard and saw her with the first Brahms, attack and soul. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Achleitner

DYK that I just mentioned him in one of the recent deaths? It seems to get worse. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:48, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Sincere apologies if (as I'm almost sure) I have posted this video for you before. Brexit Party? ... I'm always tempted to see our Nigel as the Minzy candidate. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:30, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Revved, momentarily at least. – Sca (talk) 12:43, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Don't worry, many of us in the UK have become a little disillusioned over the past three years. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:03, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Martinevans123, you'll be fascinated to know that my Mom taught our parakeet, WeeGee, to say, "I'm going stir crazy." However, she failed to teach our cat, Tabitha, not to stalk WeeGee by sneaking down the keys of the nearby piano. – Sca (talk) 13:09, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
WeeGee? I do hope he didn't get too bored. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:14, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
As a kid, my personal theory was that he was named after "Wonderful Weegee," the handle of local top-40 radio station WDGY – even though Mom wouldn't have been caught dead listening to something so iniquitous as rock & roll. – Sca (talk) 13:30, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Realised a trick I could use to get some more facial detail, which worked great... but does mean I need to notify voters. It was inky, after all, and my mind kept thinking about ways to reduce the excessive contrast without everything turning into mush, until it kind of popped out the right curve to apply, so I tried it, and, well... Hey, sorry, my perfectionism got to me, and I redid Alt 1 a bit, because that giant hat really seemed to need a bit more visual-counterbalance at the bottom of the picture. I'm sorry for doing this late in voting, I just wanted to make sure that the image promoted is the best I can do, and the new crop, I think, is way better.
