I am going out on a limb here, but I seriously think that you and your associates who came up with the idea for AntiVandalBot should consider writing a wikipedia article for it. This bot is abviously one of the most widely accepted (beloved?) bots ever written, and it does have quite a history here; probably going all the way back to the birth of Misplaced Pages. It seems to me that an encyclopedic entry on vandalism and this automated response would be welcomed here. ] (]) 08:25, 21 December 2006 (UTC) | I am going out on a limb here, but I seriously think that you and your associates who came up with the idea for AntiVandalBot should consider writing a wikipedia article for it. :Well, ] does kick in, and its not my bio to write. Chaos results when people write bio's about themselves, and I rather not go there (and IMHO, the bot isn't notable, nobody external has written about it). As for the beloved / accepted, it's only been around a year, so in wikitime I guess it's middle aged but I think it has its hate club as well as it's fan club. Who knows, if someone writes it the talk page would be something else :o -- ] 08:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC) |

Tawker is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Misplaced Pages soon. |
Ok, the bot takes care of almost everything I do, I'm swamped with work right now. I'm outta here. If you need anything urgent, email me. -- Tawker 01:03, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Frame Technology got speedied?
Hi there, I put a request for speedy deletion for the Frame Technology Coporation redirect to the Frame Technology page -- and see that just a couple of hours later, it was removed. Much more surprising: the Frame Technology page it pointed to was also deleted (for being non-notable.)
This surprises me for a couple of reasons -- first, there was no nomination to do this, so no chance for anyone to object. Second, Frame Technology was definitely notable for its time. It was responsible for Frame Maker, arguably a very significant application in the history of desktop publishing (eventually acquired by Adobe.)
Could this please be restored? It was never my intent to suggest that the article itself be removed, just the redirect. Thanks, --NapoliRoma 04:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Can't speak to restoration or not, but as the name suggests, speedy deletions don't require nominations, they may be deleted by any administrator on sight, provided they meet the criteria. CSD tags are for the benefit of non-admins, who don't have the ability to delete on sight, but must notify an admin; tagging is indeed a notification matter, but it's a notification that the page should be deleted by the first person who comes along and can, not that the deletion needs to be discussed. Hope this helps with understanding why the page was deleted without tagging. Essjay (Talk) 05:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks -- I hadn't understood that nuance.
- (It strikes me that as a rule, non-notability is an easy one to misjudge unless you have encyclopedic knowledge of the area in question, and thus should only be a criterion for plain-old deletion candidacy, not speedy deletion.)--NapoliRoma 06:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, AVB has been acting up. In short, I thought that was also a speedy, taking a look at the page it looked like a nn-corp. Perhaps it can be merged w/ Frame Maker? -- Tawker 07:18, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Merge seems OK -- AFAIK, Frame Maker was their only product of note. If I could get the content of the old page, I'd be glad to take that on.--NapoliRoma 17:43, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Bearlybot
Do you think you can create a bot which labels IP addresses as being part of a network? For example, put {{SchoolIP}} on the user IP page, so that admins will know that the person is editing from a school or business? I don't know Pearl, C++, but I know HTML. Thanks. Hello, I've upgraded with others Misplaced Pages:Translation into English which is now here : Misplaced Pages:Translation.
One thing we decided is to migrate from one big static page with all the available translators (which is heavy, hard to maintain, never up-to-date) to two userbox templates ({{Translator}} and {{Proofreader}}) so 1) all the work is done automatically by the categories 2) each translator has a link to the translation page on his user page.
To migrate from the old system to the new one, since they were a lot of people, I need a bot which would go through every user listed on Misplaced Pages:Translators available, and which would let the following message on his talk page :
{{subst:Translation/Talkpage}}

- Ok. I'll get this done for you ASAP. --Jmax- 20:19, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have asked for clarification of policy for this request. I am still a relatively new editor, and am not completely familiar with WP:BOT. Sorry for the delay. --Jmax- 03:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Please postpone this. I want to do changes to this system before we contact everybody. Jmfayard 16:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- A pretty trivial bot, lemme know when you want it run -- Tawker 08:17, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, you can do it now.

If it's too trivial for you, you can parse the language of the section and add two parameters for the language so that they can have the wikicode ready to copy/paste :
{{subst:Translation/Talkpage|eo|Esperanto}}
which gives
Hello! A while ago you signed up to help translate articles from other Wikipedias at Misplaced Pages:Translators available.
This page has since become obsolete and has been replaced by two userbox templates.
If you are still interested in translating, you may sign up again by using one of the following userboxes on your userpage :
{{Translator|eo|Esperanto}} {{Proofreader|eo|Esperanto}}
We hope to see you soon on Misplaced Pages:Translation!
But event without the two parameters, I would be very happy !

- We have programming? What channel, I'm moving my rabbit ears all around and can't find anything! -- Tawker 00:28, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I was an arse, and you copped an earful, so you are hearby presented with the first ever Aaron Brenneman apology banner for hare-raising overreaction. |
