Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is a video game in the Tony Hawk's Series . It was developed by Neversoft and published by Activision in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Color, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation. In 2002, it was published for the Nintendo 64, Xbox, PC and Game Boy Advance.

It was the first game released for the Playstation 2 supporting online play, and the last game ever released on the Nintendo 64.

This game saw the introduction of the revert, a trick that enabled vert combos to be tied together with a manual, by tapping a button when landing in a quarterpipe. This allowed for much longer combos than in the previous two games, wherein landing in a quarterpipe would finish a combo. The game also added hidden combos. These were variations on standard tricks that could either be performed as air or lip tricks. For example, double-tapping the kickflip button would, naturally, make the character perform a double kickflip. This system would later be refined in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

Skaters

Secret skaters

The characters Darth Maul, Wolverine, Kelly Slater, Officer Dick, Private Carrera, Ollie the Magic Bum, Demoness, and Neversoft Eyeball are available as secret skaters in all versions. In the Xbox version, Bones, a skeleton, is unlockable. In the PC port, id Software's Doomguy is a hidden character, accessed with a cheat code from the Doom games. It was added to promote Doom 3, which was still in development at the time.

Trivia

This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections or articles.
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the first game in the series to include brands such as McDonald's, Nokia, Jeep and others as sponsors. Prior to this game, only skating-related brands were featured.
  • Bam Margera made his video game debut in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. This would help propel him to worldwide notoriety, along with his Jackass TV series which was becoming popular at the time.
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the first multi-platform game in the series to allow players to create female skaters. (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X allowed the creation of female skaters, but it was only released for Xbox.)
  • Several objectives revolving around terrorists were cut from the airport level, because the release date was considered too soon after the September 11 attacks.
  • In September 2006, the PC version was added to the online GameTap service. However, due licensing issues, the hidden characters Darth Maul, Wolverine and Doomguy were removed, the music tracks were replaced with a smaller selection, and the end-of-game videos for each skater were removed. The order in which bonus items are unlocked has changed.
