ARS Code of Conduct
  • Note that this wikiproject is only intended to improve the encyclopedia. The project is not about casting votes or vote-stacking. Be sure to follow the guideline on canvassing. This means, in part, that you should use Template:Rescue list on the deletion discussion page when you list the discussion here.
  • Focus on improving content. For example, when working on an article listed for rescue, try to qualify topic notability by adding reliable-source references with significant coverage of the topic. Edit the content to address specific concerns raised in the AfD discussion.
  • Show the light. If you comment in an AfD discussion, try to describe points in the nomination that have been corrected. Note any remaining deficiencies (e.g. lack of organization, structural problems, lack of balance, etc.). Base comments upon Misplaced Pages's deletion policy. If an article has been rewritten, you may place a comment in the AfD as a courtesy to assist the closing admin in determining which article version others were referring to.
For more information about article rescue, please refer to ARS Tips to help rescue articles and ARS Rescue guide
For additional article improvement listings, check out this project's archives and listings at WikiProject Cleanup

This is a list and discussion of Misplaced Pages content for rescue consideration. When posting here, please be sure to:

  • First familiarize yourself with Misplaced Pages's guidelines for topic notability and identifying reliable sources, as well as the prohibition on inappropriate canvassing
  • Include a specific rationale why the article/content should be retained on Misplaced Pages, and any ideas to improve the content. Please ensure that your comment here is neutrally worded. (You can also !vote to delete an article at its deletion discussion because you think it is untenable in its present state, and still list it here in the hope that another editor will find a way to improve it and save it.)
  • You should disclose in a deletion discussion that a post has been made at the rescue list.
  • Sign posts with four tildes ~~~~.
  • Place the {{subst:rescue list|~~~~}} template in Articles for deletion discussions, to notify editors about the listing here. The tag can be placed below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

The following templates can be used for articles listed here:

  • *{{Find sources|Article name}} - Adds source search options
  • *{{lagafd|Article name}} - Adds relevant links
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (2nd nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated twice
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (3rd nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated 3 times
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (Nth nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated N ≥ 4 times

Stonehenge

Here, we are mainly concerned with rescuing articles from deletion but this tends to mean that we're usually working on weak, obscure topics. But even the most vital topics are in need of assistance and here's a topical example. Stonehenge is in the news and so I just nominated it at ITN. But already there's some opposition, saying that the article doesn't have enough references. As the ARS specialises in such work, members might like to try this high-end, vital topic for a change. Andrew🐉(talk) 08:42, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Huh? 110 references isn't enough? YGBSM 7&6=thirteen () 12:02, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
WP:ITN/C is a strange place. For another recent example, Carl Reiner is another vital topic with even more references but this wasn't enough for some and so the subject was denied an entry in ITN's list of recent deaths. But over a million readers read his article regardless. Go figure... Andrew🐉(talk) 12:40, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Been there and done that. I know. Doctor John was another one I was also involved with. Perverse thinking, IMO. 7&6=thirteen () 14:08, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

ASC Shipbuilding

Is this Australian Shipbuilding Company worth saving? Or ought it be merged into various parent companies? To paraphrase George Tenet, finding reliable sources should be a "slam dunk". But we know how that prediction about WMDs in Iraq worked out. 7&6=thirteen () 20:03, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Ellwood Walter was President of the Mercantile Mutual Insurance Company in New York for 28 years. The New York pilot boat Ellwood Walter, No. 7 was named after him. He was a trustee for the Nautical School for the harbor of New York to educate boys in seamanship and navigation. He was Vice-President of the New York Seamen’s Association. He was awarded a silver medal and money by the American Benevolent Life Saving Society of New York. On 20 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Albanese Candy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Albanese Candy makes gummy confectioneries in the shape of worms, snakes, butterflies, khaki-colored soldiers, and jet fighter aircraft? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Albanese Candy. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Albanese Candy), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

2020 United States racial injustice reckoning

KEEP The result was keep. The question is whether this is original research by synthesis. Numerically, we have 11 delete/merge and 7 keep opinions. That's no consensus so far. In terms of arguments, I think the "keep" side has the substantially stronger ones: Czar has provided numerous references in support of their view that this is not something made up by Wikipedians, but discussed as a topic in reliable sources. The subsequent "delete" opinions do not engage with these sources, e.g. to attempt to show that the "reckoning" discussed in these sources is something other than the "reckoning" discussed in this article. Instead, almost all merely assert original research without further arguments. That's not much more than a pure vote under these circumstances, and accordingly I must give it very little weight. As such, I am of the view that, going by strength of argument, rough consensus is to keep the article (possibly bordering on no consensus, but the outcome would be the same). This does not prevent editors, of course, from agreeing to rename the article if this is deemed necessary. Sandstein

KEEP The result was keep per SNOW, pace to LongRoad, but no point in wasting people's time (although it should be noted that this closure is in spite of !votes from the ARS, not because of them: they are no more convincing than usual!). But there has, apart from that, been much good work done from other editors. I suggest the sources now apparently available, particularly those in Bangladeshi, are utilised in the article to avoid the otherwise unavoidable impression of fancruftdom. While we're at it, Timtrent, may I suggest that you adjust your signature in accordance with WP:CUSTOMSIG/P (A customised signature should make it easy to identify your username). This escaped into the wild too early, unreferenced. I see hope of making it pass it's current AfD if sufficient clever folk can reference it. Note the alternate spelling Shubhro Fiddle Faddle 16:17, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

This is an amusing analogy for Misplaced Pages – a complex, shifting reality which keeps changing in a protean way but never makes complete sense while none of the versions and revisions ever really go away. The best summary I've of it seen so far is that "it's all true!". What it really means that the authors and editors can do whatever they like – just like Misplaced Pages, eh? Small penis

REDIRECT AGAINST CONSENSUS The result was redirect to penis size; the arguments for disambiguation are correct, that the navigation needs to be served, but this can be done with or without a primary topic. Per Spicy's argument, the nav function being argued for can also be handled with a primary topic; will expand the hatnote there as well. -- JHunterJ

DELETE The result was delete. The arguments for delete have been made with reference to policies and guidelines, and I am seeing detailed analysis of how particular sources do not meet those requirements. The keep arguments on the other hand have tended to merely assert the company is notable without detailed argument. Where specific sources have been put forward there has been a failure to explain, with reference to guidelines, how they meet the requirements, and the claims have been refuted in detail.
