Roller skating
Hello, I noticed the new project banner on the Roller skating page and just thought I would check in. I am a little concerned because roller skating, as a general topic, isn't an "extreme sport." However, some aspects of roller skating, such as Aggressive skating, absolutely do fit in the Extreme category. But roller skating includes more than the extreme parts of the sport, just as "ice skating" includes hockey and figure skating. :) The roller skating article used to be heavily biased toward inline skating, aggressive skating, etc., and I have done a lot of work toward making the article represent all kinds of skating and the history of skating, not just the extreme (and inline) forms that are more recent. So my worry is that if the page is part of the project, that the editing will start slanting back towards a biased presentation again. I'm also a bit concerned that the page has been listed here as needing "cleanup," when the page is actually in pretty good shape now (though of course, any page can be improved) -- does it need cleanup because it's not "extreme"-focused? I hope that's not what it's about. I think the aggressive skating page (among others) should be in the Project, and the roller skating page should be edited to make sure it is correct, but I am not sure the roller skating should be in the Extreme project since it is a topic that only partially includes extreme sports.
One more thing, though -- despite my concerns above, I think the project is a great idea and I am glad you are doing it. Thanks! ManekiNeko | Talk 09:02, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you -- I just listed the articles I was most familiar with when creating the project. It took a long time to make that project page, all the graphics, and all the templates, so the details kind of got lost in the shuffle. Whether or not the article is included will probably not affect the way it is written. Even though the category is Extreme Sports, the writing style will still follow standard Misplaced Pages practices. It's just a means of getting a lot of knowledgeable heads together collaborating on a single topic. If you want to remove the tag from the talk page, go right ahead. I encourage you to join the Project though - we could use a good mind like yours. --Michael 18:55, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply -- I may do that. ManekiNeko | Talk 22:51, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I joined, I removed the banner from Roller Skating (and removed it from the cleanup list here), and I added Skateboarding to the cleanup list here (the page already had a cleanup notice anyway!). I left Roller skating in the Extreme sports category which seems appropriate along with its other categories. I'll do some more later when I get a chance. Bodyboarding
Well, hi and thanx for creating this wikiproject. I´m very interested in extreme sports. As a bodyboarder I contributed a lot on this subject (see Shark Island Challenge and the many bodyboarding biographies around), and I had a lot of trouble protecting the bodyboarding article. I think the main bodyboarding article is a decent article, but it does not follow perfectly wikipedia guidelines (the introduction is too long, there isn´t a section devoted to the history and development of the sport). I do not think the article needs a clean-up, so I did not put it on the task list. If there were a sectin reading: Articles in need of some improvement (or something) I would have listed it there... By the way, I´m planning to make a complete rewrite of the article, but I did not have the got the time to do that yet! Loudenvier 02:47, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for joining! I've never started a WikiProject before, so I apologize in advance for the growing pains. (I've been involved as a member in the Philosophy WikiProject, so I've designed this one around their style.) Once we get enough members (10 maybe?), we can open up a vote for the Collaboration Of The Month. That's a really good way to turn a semi-decent article into a feature-status one. If there are any sub-articles to bodyboarding that should be included in this project (in your opinion), please place the
{{WikiProject Extreme sports}}
tag on their Talk pages, and make sure they are categorized as "Extreme Sports".Again, thank you for joining. --Michael 03:48, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Standards and Practices Discussion
Should specific trick articles, like the Royale grind for example, be categorised under Extreme Sports, or should they be under their specific sport's area. Aggressive Skating in this case. --Churchill 10:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
'extreme' sports
Couldn't anyone think of a better heading for this subject? What is this, advertising for ESPN and the X games? How about a title that is not so stuck in the 90's? --Baoluo 04:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think these types of sports have always been classed as Extreme Sports. It would be inappropriate and misleading with any other name. --Churchill 11:00, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
New category
While wikignoming, I created a new category, Category:Aggressive skating for the articles in this topic. Just a heads up. I added a handful of articles to it, but I'm not very acquainted with the subject, so perhaps the experts here could make better use of it.--The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 17:48, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed the Category you created and the articles you assigned, I think that was a good move and i will make sure to organise all of my Aggressive Skating articles under this cat.
- Do you think, as they are organised under the Aggressive Skating cat, they should be removed from the Extreme Sports cat? Or should they still remain in both? --Churchill 11:01, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Individual X Games Articles
I was looking around for some X Games XII article to update, since the X Games have started, but it seems that there are no individual articles on each X Games (except for X Games VIII). Does anyone know if just no one ever created the articles, or is there a reason, or can I just not find them? I was interested in work on them (over time), but there doesn't seem to be anything to work on. -- Natalya 01:43, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure on that one, I rekon it's just a lack of Extreme Sport enthusiaasts on here willing to create them. I think it would be OK to create an article for the X Games XII, seeing as there is an article for every single Summer Olympics event, 2000 Summer Olympics for example. --Churchill 13:33, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I did a results article for XG 12 but I never did find much more. I thought for sure that someone would have done more in depth coverage.JodiG 01:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)JodiG
Project Logo
Anyone else a little dissatisfied with the project logo? If all of you don't mind, I'd like to create a new logo .svg in Inkscape. Cephyr 18:17, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, the logo probably could do with a revamp, see what you can come up with! --Churchill 19:31, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Misplaced Pages Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 19:02, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Rails & Boxes
Shouldnt there be pages for rails and boxes in skateboarding and skiing? --Ncusa367 (talk) 23:32, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Request
Hi, I am wondering if I could join, but as I am young can not do any adrenaline junkie stuff, but will do LOADS when I can; and I mean loads. I want to do skydiving, proper Parkour (not just what I do now, which is pathetic due to lack of stuff), join some Special Intelligence Service and lots of other adrenaline related stuff, as I LOVE Adrenaline. So would I be able to join and just edit articles? If so what do I write in the members bit? --'The Ninjalemming' 16:35, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Are there enough articles on this subject to justify an Outline of extreme sports?
Here's a discussion about subject development you might find interesting.

Any interest in reviving this group?
Just curious if anyone would be interested in reviving this group. Infamouse (talk · contribs) 16:33, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Misplaced Pages struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
