Xanlıq (also Khanlyg, Khanliq, Template:Lang-hy) is a village in the Qubadli District of Azerbaijan, an area occupied by Armenian forces between 1993 and 2020 during which it was included within the un-recognised republic of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh. It is on the Hakari River (Template:Lang-az), a tributary of the Araz.

History

The name of the village (meaning 'property of the Khan') is traced back to the ownership of land here by Mehrali bey Sarijali-Javanshir, son of Panah Ali Khan, a prominent 18th-century ruler of Karabakh. During the years of the Russian Empire, the village was part of the Jebrail district of the Elizavetpol province. An 1886 statistical yearbook cites the village as consisting of 148 households with a population of 648 Tatars (ie Turkic/Azerbaijani) individuals who were listed as Sunni by religion and farmers by occupation. It was occupied by Armenian forces in October 1993 and, from 1998, renamed Ishkanadzor by ethnic Armenians who had emigrated from Azerbaijan during the first Nagorno-Karabakh war. In the 2003 census the village had a population of 211 people but that had grown to around 2000 by 2010. In 2006 the village completed the construction of Ishkanadzor Clinic with financial backing from the Tufenkian Foundation while in 2014, it was reported that 34 additional homes had been built in Xanliq using funds from the Artsakh Lottery. Until October 2020, the village was a hub for 16 other smaller settlements in the surrounding areas.. Azerbaijani forces recaptured the village in late October 2020 during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a landmark announced by Azerbaijani Ilham Aliyev on 26th October 2020.
