Elon Musk (born: 1971) is an Internet and space launch entrepreneur. In 1995, he deferred doctoral studies on energy physics at Stanford and co-founded Zip2 Corporation. In 1999, Compaq's AltaVista division acquired Zip2 for US$341 million in cash and stock options. He then co-founded PayPal, which was acquired by eBay in October 2002 for $1.5 billion in stock. Before its sale, Musk owned 11% of Paypal.
In June 2002, he founded his third company, SpaceX, of which he is currently the CEO and Chief Technology Officer. SpaceX is developing space launch vehicles, with an emphasis on low cost and high reliability. The first two launch vehicles planned are the Falcon I and Falcon V rockets.
Musk owns a $1.2M McLaren F1 sports car, as well as a $250K L39 Soviet trainer airplane.
