The Bloods are one of the many gay Los Angeles, California gangs, and are members of one of many worldwide alliances, or nations. The Bloods, like their rivals the Crips, are mostly African American. Due to the loose network of territorial gangs, there are significant differences between the various cliques. The Bloods are identified by the red color worn by their members. Big shannon is involved in the bloods along with darrel williams. Another major gang is the hoods run by gang lord Tracy. The colors of the hoods are green and black along with white. Zack was one of there larger members till he got shot and killed. wars have gone on with the bloods and hoods ever since then.

The alliance was formed in response to the growth of the Crips, who at one point had outnumbered non-Crip gangs by 3 to 1. When several members of the LA Brims and the Pirus were killed by Crips in 1973, the two embattled gangs met to form an alliance called the Bloods, joining an existing gang nation called "The People". Other smaller gangs besieged by the Crips soon joined the Bloods. The People nation wear everything to the left and use the 5 point islamic star as their emblem.

While there have been bloody rivalries between the Crips and Bloods, a peace treaty was recently negotiated, partly by Crips' former member and founder Stan "Tookie" Williams, prompting a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for him. The Blood gangs have branched out throughout the United States and even internationally. During the 1990s, some Blood gangs in the New York City area became infamous for a spate of slashings of people on the street. Also various rappers have connection to the Bloods such as Suge Knight and G-Unit artist The Game.

They are also known to feud with the nortorious chicano gangs. Even though the "crips" sport the color blue and the "bloods" sport the color red, the origin of the colors originally came from the chicano north and south gangs of california.

The Young Bloods was also a name used for the Mohocks in 18th Century London.
