True story?
Gadd based this on his own experiences but also performed it as a one-man-show around 2019 when he said "‘It would be unfair to say she was awful and I'm a victim’" Unless I missed something between napping (I wasn't that enamoured, save for the excellent script, I can't take that from him and mesmerising performances from Gunning and Goodman-Hill as Darrius) Donny is very much the victim and Martha very much the aggressor.
Remember and this certainly isn't made clear anywhere (or if it is, I can't find it) which parts are actually verifiable. I know a Scottlish lady has come forward to identify/out herself and that would fit with the profile of a covert narcissistic/fantasist as portrayed in the show. I don't want to speculate outside of my field but there's a dearth of evidence for what sent this clearly sick woman right over the edge.
Speculating outside of the show (from my own experiences) cryptomnesia comes into play here and maybe Gadd genuinely believes he told the story truthfully, only making up bits for salacious detail. All we really know at this stage is the legal machinery is just getting started. And it might just fizzle out. Again, I don't know but if Misplaced Pages is going to run an article like this (and me be the first to drop in and comment) something is off.
Barely a mention of the play! and yet *some* version of this page has been here since October 2022. Just smells wrong to me. 94.196.244.3 (talk) 21:40, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
