"Trunk Fulla Amps " is a song by the American alternative rock pop rock band Self , released on February 1, 2001, as the lead single to their third studio album Gizmodgery . The track has multiple references to American music and pop culture , including references to Freddie Mercury and Lenny Kravitz .
Background
A music video for "Trunk Fulla Amps" was released alongside the single, featuring the members of the band performing and having a party; and was directed by Reed Ridley and edited by Wes Edwards. The video was released through both MTV , and online via the Spongebath Records website.
According to Matt Mahaffey , most of the recording budget went into a 30 second advertisement played during the 2001 Super Bowl that aired in select areas of the east coast.
