Unschool is an Indian educational technology company that provides online educational platform with its headquarters in Hyderabad. It prepares university students, graduates and working professional with career oriented skills (like Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, Data Science, Digital Marketing, Soft Skills etc.), as well as skill building courses (programming, graphic design, entrepreneurship, etc.). It was founded by Rahul Varma and Narayanan Subramaniam in 2019. As of May 2024, Unschool has trained over 2,50,000 students across 2500+ universities and colleges in India.

Rahul and Narayanan read about the growing unemployability rate in India and decided to change the system to help more and more students. Both of them are AIESEC India alum.

Product and services

In June 2019, Unschool launched it's flagship Internship Program providing college students with relevant career skills to secure an internship to enhance their CV and to become job-ready before graduating.

In 2021 they launched its subscription-based model, Kickstarter Program that helped student learn over 150+ micro-skills.

History

Unschool started off from a small apartment in Kukatpally, Hyderabad in 2019. The idea first took shape in October, 2018 when Rahul and Narayanan were working in different companies in Bangalore and Mumbai respectively. They decided to start researching, setting up the website and the initial team. Until May, 2019 they ran different pilots to test the water before finally registering the business.

Funding and valuation

In March 2021, it received a pre-seed funding from Y Combinator - a US based startup accelerator.
