re: Chaplin

Thank you for your suggestion. However, as stated on the selected anniversaries guidelines, births and deaths can only be used on centennials, etc. Since Charlie Chaplin was born in 1889, he would only be 118 years old. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 16:20, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Indian caste system

I guess that you're trying to write about how British used the concept of castes to divide the Indian society. But, your wordings (such as "selfish") indicate POV. Please see WP:NPOV.

Besides, your text is not sourced. Mention of Ralph T.H. Griffith is not a reference for what you added to the article. See Misplaced Pages:Citing sources. For an example, see Indian Caste System#Caste_and_social_status:

Some scholars point that the hierarchy of the castes was more fluid amongst the non-Brahmins, prior to the arrival of the British. ... The castes did not constitute a rigid description of the occupation or the social status of a group. They would rise or fall in prestige depending on their economic or political power. Since the British society was divided by class, the British attempted to equate the Indian caste system to the class system. They saw caste as an indicator of occupation, social standing, and intellectual ability. The caste system really became rigid during the British Raj, when the British started to enumerate castes during the ten year census and codified the system under their rule.

The above text cites these as references:

Please make sure what you add to the article is sourced and NPOV, like the above text. utcursch | talk 10:08, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not saying that the British were good or bad. I'm just asking you to use neutral point of view and source your text. utcursch | talk 14:43, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Is it ok, to write into wikipedia something that is not sourced?

People do add unsourced matter to Misplaced Pages, but the sources should be provided when asked for. You might be right in saying that the British encouraged the caste system, but statements such as "they divided the country bringing into the Indian Constitution Hindu caste system that has no place in the Vedas", "They included the usage of Caste during the registrations of forms from an Indian Applicant, which was neither permitted in the Bible", "a knowledgeable and selfish community from Britain", "such illicit and selfish practices" etc. border on POV, personal essay and original research. utcursch | talk 15:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Please stop. Continuing to add unsourced or original content, as you did to Indian caste system, is considered vandalism and may result in a block. Buddhipriya 08:29, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
