Summary

Estonian Age of Awakening is a period in history where Estonians became to acknowledge themselves as a nation deserving the right to govern themselves. This period is considered to begin in 1850 with bigger rights being granted to commoners by abolition of serfdom and end with a declaration of Republic of Estonia in 1918.
