Connolley is a climate modeller serving as Senior Scientific Officer in the Physical Sciences Division of the British Antarctic Survey. He supports "the IPCC consensus", i.e., he believes that there is a consensus in the scientific community about climate change topics such as global warming, and that the IPCC's various reports accurately summarize this consensus.
He believes that scientists can and should participate in "public understanding of science", and does this by editing wikipedia, posting to sci.environment and writing for RealClimate as well as a personal blog.
He is also a 3 dan Go player, beekeeper and mountaineer.
