Pasigraphy is a writing system where concepts are written instead of words or phonetics. The aim (as with ordinary numerals 1, 2, 3, etc.) is to be intelligible to persons of all languages. The term was applied to a system proposed in 1796. Pasi in Greek means "to all". Leibniz and Alexander von Humboldt are associated with the concept.
