The R68 subway car is a joint venture of Westinghouse AM-Rail Company, ANF Industrie of Paris and other companies. With a contract to deliver 425 R-68 cars, R68 was built in France and shipped to New York Harbor. It is the first of two contracts of R68. R68 was built in combined by R46 and R62 features to built in a better state of the art subway car with high MDBF (Mean Distance Between Failure), perfoming better service. R68 is the third R-class contract to be built in 75-foot (23 m) cars. It has more capacity for sitting and standing passengers. First enter pasanger revenue service was in 1986 on the D-Line, first cars 2500-2007. There were two contracts to the R68, the primary order was: 2500-2727 and the R68-1 option order was 2728-2924. It serves NOW on Template:NYCS D-6 Avenue Express, Template:NYCS N-Broadway Express , Template:NYCS Q-Broadway Express, Template:NYCS S-Franklin Avenue Shuttle and sometimes making an appearance on Template:NYCS B-6 Avenue Express and Template:NYCS W-Broadway Local. R68 now stored and serve on the Concourse Yard in the Bronx and Coney Island Yard in Brooklyn.
