Tiruchirapalli (also known as Trichy) is a city situated on the banks of the Kaveri river and is centrally located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The city was formerly known as Trichinopoly. It is also known as Rockfort City. With excellent access to Road, Rail and Air Transport facilities, it has a small International airport.
It has many historic Churches, Mosques, Temples and monuments. It was a important town in the days of the historic rulers of Trichy. It has a rock fortress which was built during that time.
Considered a good educational town it has schools that are hundred years old and many Engineering Colleges and a Government run Medical College. The National Institute of Technology (Formerly, Regional Engineering College)and the Bharathidasan Institute of Management are also located in Tiruchirapalli.
