"QWERTY" is a song by the American rock band Linkin Park. It was originally written for the album Minutes to Midnight, but was not put on it. (However, the song was put on the band's official website and released as an official ringtone.) Many fans were upset about this, and to compensate for it, Linkin Park released it on the Linkin Park Underground Version 6.0 EP. A live version of the song from the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan was also put on the EP.
The song was written by Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington in August 2006 on the plane to a concert, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan. It was premiered during shows there. On a setlist for the shows it was labeled as "QWERTY". The song is notable for having a more complex guitar riff than Linkin Park usually uses.
The track is often referred to as "Behind Your Lies" or "QWERTY (Behind Your Lies)" by fans and some websites because of the main chorus which contains the lyrics "You hide behind lies, you don't know why, you crossed the line, wrapped up inside your lies."
The title "QWERTY" is derived from the letters' positioning in a computer keyboard, and the use of the phrase as the song's title is said to have come from Phoenix.
Notes
- The studio version of the song is 28 seconds shorter, and has a faster chorus.
- In the live version, Mike Shinoda whispers the end repeat of the lyric "you hide behind lies, you don't know why", while Chester whispers it in the studio version.
