• August 21, 1979 - Dusty Rhodes defeated Harley Race for the NWA Heavyweight Wrestling title.
• August 22, 2000 - Lita defeated Stephanie MaMahon-Helmsley for the WWF Women's Championship.
• August 27, 1994 - "Eastern Championship Wrestling" was renamed "Extreme Championship Wrestling".
• August 31, 1997 - Kensuke Sasaki defeated Shinya Hashimoto for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

• We have now reached our goal of getting the number of Stub-Class articles below 600. The current count is 596. It still would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list has been placed on the stub article subpage of stub articles of well-known wrestlers that should be fairly easy to improve.

• At SummerSlam, Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella defeated Mickie James and Kofi Kingston to win the WWE Women's and Intercontinental Championships, respectively.
• TNA Wrestling released Gail Kim from her contract on August 20.
• It was announced on the August 25 television episode of Raw that John Cena had suffered a herniated disc in his neck. Cena received successful surgery the following day, and will be inactive for 2-4 months.
• Killer Kowalski passed away on August 30 after suffering a heart attack two weeks prior.

• Mick Foley's WWE contract expired on September 1, and he has signed a short-term deal with TNA.

  • Afa Anoa'i, Jr. made his debut as "Manu".
• Nathan Jones was injured in Thailand, after he was hit by a truck. Jones had recently signed a deal with TNA, but will now be out for at least 3 months.

• The Collaboration of the Week has recently been revamped, and we will now have 6 collaborations at a time. The current collaborations will stand until they reach a certain goal, e.g. Good article status.
