The Shaheen missile was developed by National Defence Complex (NDC), a subsidiary of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) which was formed in 1993, under the guidance of Dr. Samar Mubarik Mand. The Shaheen missile is an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with an optimal range of 2500 km. Sources indicate that Pakistan is preparing to launch a ballistic missile (BM) with a range of 3000+ km.Shaheen missile is very accurate and has a CEP of 50 meters.
The Shaheen missile can carry both a conventional and non-conventional payload. It is powered by a solid propellant engine; making it a fast response weapon as compared to Ghauri or Agni missile. Other missiles currently in the service of Pakistan are; Hatf 1A (BRBM), Abdali (BRBM), Ghaznavi (SRBM), Ghauri (IRBM).
Pakistan has also Indigenously developed a cruise missile Babur missile in response to India's Brahmos cruise missile. The Brahmos cruise missile was the result of collaboration between India and Russia.
