M83 is one of the closest and brightest barred spiral galaxies in the sky. Visible with binoculars in the constellation of Hydra, majestic spiral arms have prompted its nickname of the Southern Pinwheel.

M83 or Messier 83 is a spiral galaxy in constellation Hydra. It is also known as NGC 5236 or Southern Pinwheel Galaxy.
