Pete Louis Vincent de Freitas (2 August 196114 June 1989) was a musician and producer, best known as a drummer with Echo & the Bunnymen.

In 1961, de Freitas was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He joined the Bunnymen in 1979 becoming the band's first drummer, as previously they had used a drum machine, Echo, which gave the band part of their name. De Freitas spent some time in New Orleans, gaining the nickname Mad Louie for some of his antics. He died in a motorcycle accident in 1989 at the age of 27, on his way to Liverpool from London. His ashes are buried in Goring-on-Thames.

He is greatly revered by fans of the band, and respected by many future drummers. Ian McCulloch, the band's vocalist, has claimed on many occasions that no other contemporaneous drummer could come close to matching de Freitas. He is often cited as being the band's engine, owing to his perfect timing and the manner in which his propulsive drumming propels some of the band's songs, as evinced most impressively on tracks such as Over the Wall on Echo and the Bunnymen's second album, Heaven Up Here.

His twin sisters Rose and Rachel were founding members of the band The Heart Throbs.
