Schaumburg High School, or SHS is a public four-year high school located in Schaumburg, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States.
History
Schaumburg High School opened in 1970. It is accredited by the North Central Association and has earned full recognition status by the State Superintendent of Schools in the State of Illinois.
On April 19, 2007 there was a bomb threat at Schaumburg High School in which the school was forced to be evacuated into the football stadium and was forced to be shut down and released early while the police came in and searched the school for dangerous devices. No harmful substances were found.
Currently, as well as for the next couple of years, Schaumburg High School is undergoing a massive reconstruction product in which 13 new classrooms, a new grand foyer, busport, administration center, three new science labs, and handicap accessibility will be added to the high school. This is a part of the larger District 211 construction projects on Conant, Hoffman Estates, and Schaumburg High Schools.
Academics
In 2006, Schaumburg had an average composite ACT score of 21.4, and graduated 98% of its senior class. The average class size is 650. Schaumburg has not made Adequate Yearly Progress on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, a state test part of the No Child Left Behind Act.
For the past two years, Schaumburg High School has been named one of America's Top High Schools by Newsweek Magazines, placing it in the top 5% of high schools in the nation, an honor only three of the five District 211 high schools received.
The United States Department of Education has recognized Schaumburg High School as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
