Charlie Buckton is a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by actress Esther Anderson since 2008. Buckton arrived in Summer Bay in June 2008. She is a senior constable at the local police station. In March 2009, the character was the center of some controversy as Home and Away producers revealed they were introducing a "lesbian storyline" in which Buckton would fall in love with another female character, Joey Collins, played by Kate Bell. Conservative religious and family groups were very critical of the storyline and accused producers of developing "sexualised plot lines" and then marketing them to a very young target audience.
