I'm sorry I reacted like that but I get very aggravated when people do this. The rationale is right, don't hassle me about it. If you don't like it please fix it or tell me how to fix it. I think even you can understand what it is like to log on and find a message that says, "HAHA U HAVE RONG RATIONALE FIX IT OR IT GOES BYE BYE". Anyway sorry but you have to understand after about the 100th one of those messages one can get aggravated.

DB9 (talk) 00:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

For anyone else reading this, I believe he is referring to this.
DB9: I never said your rationale was bad. I never mentioned "deletion" or "rationale" in what I typed on your page. When you have a moment, could you please specify the exact Web page where you found the image? Thank you.--Rockfang (talk) 01:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Gator golf Gator head logo tagged for use rationale

Rockfang, I have taken on the thankless task of cleaning up and expanding 8 or 10 "orphan" Gators sports articles, including the Florida Gators golf article. I am guessing that there is a fairly boilerplate rationale that must be provided and uploaded somewhere within WikiCommons----most college sports teams display their team's logo. I know you're just doing your job, but can please provide some insight on what I need to do to get the use of the Gator head logo approved uniformly for all Gator sports articles? It has apparently been approved for some and not for others, and I do not know how to navigate the byzantine process. Given that no one else is tending these orphan articles, it falls on me to deal with this issue. Thanks for your consideration. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 07:25, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Commons does not use the rationales we are talking about. They only allow free files there. Rationales are for non-free images. Per WP:NFCC#10c, each time a non-free image is used, it needs a separate named rationale. So to use the image in the golf article, you need to add a rationale for it on the image's page. If you'd like me to do it so you can see how it works, let me know.--Rockfang (talk) 07:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Rockfang. I'm still getting the hang of accessing the hidden Wiki pages. I have since discovered that you can access the non-free image use page for a particular image by clicking on the image itself. I will try to learn by doing, and add Gator golf as well as several other orphan Gator sports articles to list. I would be grateful if you would check on my work later today and make sure I did it properly. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Rockfang, I have attempted to insert the non-free use rationale for Florida Gators golf into the Gator logo use page. I have also added another 8 or 10 use rationales for the balance of the primary Gator sports articles, and attempted to put them in logical order so that Wiki copyright enforcers may quickly locate the relevant use rationale when checking Gator logos. Please check my work and confirm that it has been in done per Wiki policy standards.
BTW, what the heck is a "rockfang," anyway? Certainly original, and got me to ask the question. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:24, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
All looks good with the rationales now. Some years ago I played a game called Asheron's Call. I wanted my character to have a "kick ass" name, so I picked Rocktoe. I figured if someone had a rock toe, that they'd be pretty good at kicking ass. Eventually, I started a 2nd character and I wanted some people to know it was me so I picked Rockfang. Mostly just because fangs typically cool in my opinion.--Rockfang (talk) 17:13, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Interesting "rock" history. Thanks again for your assistance in this logo matter. Rather than pawn these types of copyright matters off on others within my university project, I am just going to attempt to resolve them globally when they arise. Seems silly that someone took the time to add the logo use rationale for some Gator teams and not all. Thanks for your help----you've added a new arrow in my WikiQuiver. It actually is not a fair-use image. For a description of fair-use images please see WP:FAIRUSE. The license text on that image does not match up with where it came from. The source image is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0. The text here says Creative Commons Share Alike 2.0. They need to match. Also, all files on Misplaced Pages need to have a license tag on them. This file does not. If you do not know how to fix the problems, I can show you.--Rockfang (talk) 06:33, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
I did not know it was not fair use. Please show me how to correct the situation in the future. Also I am sorry that someone from the Gator Community (may) have vandalized your page. By and large we are a good group of editors, and I guess tempers can flare up from time to time. NorwalkJames (talk) 12:10, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
I've fixed the image.--Rockfang (talk) 14:27, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure that injunction makes sense, however I have added nobots to copyvio template. Rich Farmbrough, 18:31, 17 August 2009 (UTC).

Ok. Thank you. Do you understand why I reverted your bot's edit though?--Rockfang (talk) 18:46, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Madonna - the first album.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Madonna - the first album.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

State of Florida public domain government images

Rockfang, you were very helpful to me in resolving a copyright image last week. Your name is being tossed around in a new minor dust-up over a University of Florida archive image of one of the university's past presidents. Can you help me out here? There is apparently a valid public domain rationale under state law. Please see discussions at and . Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:58, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
