Iyengar is the name given to a community of Brahmins of India who were originally from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the latter known popularly as Bangalore Iyengars . They are followers of Sri Ramanujacharya and profess the Visistadvaita darshana. Important temples are Srirangam, Tirumalai, Kanchipuram which are the most important among the 108 Divya Desams. Iyengars are divided into Vadakalai and Thenkalai due to a later day division in their philosophies.
