She is thought to have been the origin of numerous vampire myths: She is believed to have been a serial killer who tortured and slew over six hundred peasant women in her castle and bathed in their blood. When her crimes were discovered, she was tried and imprisoned in solitary confinement, where she died.
Since her death, she has been associated with the Dracula myth and with the trope of the sexually sadistic vampiress in particular.
