Maltings Academy is a secondary school in Witham, Essex, it is the larger of two secondary schools in Witham. It is a relatively new school as it is a replacement for the John Bramston School.
In October 2006 John Bramston School was graded as Inadequate for "Overall effectiveness of the school" by Ofsted and as a result the school was placed into Special measures. A new head, Mike O'Sullivan was appointed in Easter 2007 and a new head Mr J Szynal was appointed in the summer of 2010. The school became the Maltings Academy in 2008.
The Academy is due to be replaced by a new building that is currently under construction by Carillion plc. The site is due to be completed by autumn 2011 and the current building will then be demolished and turned into playing fields. The school was recently inspected by Ofsted who commented that the Academy was "making good progress towards raising standards".
