Happy editing! - UtherSRG 03:24, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Jamie, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. I noticed that you've added external links to a slew of Marvel Comics articles. I checked the links and none of them contain any information at all. As well, the website, marveldatabase.com, seems to be controlled by youself. As it stands, your additions are little more than link spam and will probably be removed shortly. While I admire your moxy in wanting to create a Marvel database, perhaps you should wait until you have some content before adding links to Misplaced Pages's comic articles. --NormanEinstein 03:57, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Marvel Database Project
I found this article marked for speedy delete, but thought it was worthy of moving to Votes for deletion. Please go to to Misplaced Pages:Votes for deletion/Marvel Database Project if you want to defend it.-gadfium 06:19, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Just remarked this for speedy delete, it is empty, put a talk page notice that if expanded by creator before deletion then ok to kill my speedy delete tag Xaosflux 01:40, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

Wikimedia Canada
Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
DC Database link at Batman
Please note I have removed the DC Database link at Batman you placed. It doesn't meet WP:EL requirements, and also as you are involved in the enterprise it doesn't meet Misplaced Pages:Spam. I note a warning from Lowellian above regarding link spamming; I shall contact him and discuss his reason for issuing the warning. At the moment please refrain from placing links to your projects on Misplaced Pages. A better place for them is DMOZ, an open source directory. Steve block talk 10:55, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for your considered response. Sadly I have to disagree.
- Per WP:SPAM:
- Misplaced Pages is not a space for the promotion of Web sites
- Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, not a link farm
- The References section is for references...
- Per WP:EL:
- What should not be linked to:
- Links that are added to promote a site, by the site operator or its affiliates
- A website that you own or maintain (unless it is the official site of the subject of the article). If it is relevant and informative, mention it as a possible link on the talk page and wait for someone else to include it, or include the information directly in the article
- Pages that contain a substantial fraction of factually inaccurate material or which contain unverified original research
- In general, any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article here would have once it becomes an example of brilliant prose
- What should not be linked to:
- Per WP:RS
- Evaluate the reliability of online sources just as you would print or other more traditional sources. Neither online nor print sources deserve an automatic assumption of reliability by virtue of the medium they are printed in. All reports must be evaluated according to the processes and people that created them.
- Per WP:SPAM:
- As you have to accept, given you are editor in chief, founder and possibly host of the site in question you are not best qualified to make the distinctions regarding your site. Your addition of links contravenes directions listed above, your site can't be considered a reliable source given the lack of sourcing, for example Air-Walker (Automaton), and your addition of links is clearly in breach of WP:SPAM given you state on my talk page you are linking to your benefit. Based upon the guidelines above, myself and a fellow administrator, Lowellian, have both agreed that your addition of such links is spamming and that if you consider to do so you will be blocked. - Steve,
- I will totally agree that being the admin at the MDP/DCDP I may be biased to a degree. I however also want you to take my position into account: The point of having interwiki linking such as linking between Misplaced Pages and Wikiquotes or Wiktionary is that various references can be tied together to make a more complete 'big picture'. Let's be honest, Misplaced Pages is large with hundreds of thousands of users and articles. They simply don't have the ability to fine-tune the site to the specific needs of one topic. That is why the MediaWiki software is open-source... so others can help work together. I worked very hard to get our project added as inter-wiki 'sister-sites' to Misplaced Pages. Now that I am trying to interlace our project with Misplaced Pages with reciprocal links, we are being shunned. I appreciate that our site is still relatively new and isn't to the refined quality of Misplaced Pages, but we are getting there. We do, however, have several features and lots of information Misplaced Pages does not.
- If this were a fansite or if in any way I profited financially, I would completely agree. The thing I don't get is how another Misplaced Pages 'sister-site' using the same MediaWiki software isn't able to share what we have with Misplaced Pages. I hesitate to say, I think of our site as an extension of the Misplaced Pages project, where we are able to accomplish things differently becuase of our focused nature. Do you not see value in our site? If the comics portal was sufficient to meet the needs of the comic community, there wouldn't be so many new sites popping up. Even Wikicities (A Wikimedia hosted project) has a new Marvel wiki!
- My contention is that there should be some additional leeway be given to other reference sites, which are of good repute and good intent (especially wiki). I can also see how linking to sites with inaccurate information or malicious intent would be more detrimental to Misplaced Pages's goals... I can assure you our project strives to achieve the same level of accuracy as Misplaced Pages. Our ideals are very much in line with yours: To provide accurate information, without charge, to the world via the Internet. Our project has received GREAT recognition from IGN, Ain't It Cool News and Marvel themselves! Our Marvel site is being monitored by folks at Marvel. I personally have been in touch with several of their representatives over the course of the last year to ensure we are not stepping on any toes...
- Please reconsider our case on an individual basis, as exception to the 'letter of the law', rather by the 'spirit of the law'. Please play the devil's advocate and see how our reciprocal interwiki links are of benefit to both projects and ultimately to the readers...
- Thank you,
