The term means simply "the four parts" and refers to the administrative districts into which it was divided. The conceptual center of the empire was the imperial capital of Cuzco (variously "Qosqo", "Cusco", or a variety of other spellings). The names of the four parts ('suyus') of the empire were: Chinchasuyu (North), Qollasuyu (South), Antisuyu (East), and Kuntisuyu (West). The emperor was known as the Sapa Inca.
