The Malayalam calendar is a lunar calendar.
I doubt that this is a lunar calendar. I followed the link and one of the months seemed to have 31 days. --Juuitchan

The Malayalam era called KollaVarsham (or Kollam era) was established in 825. A.D. Some historians attribute the founding of this era to King Udaya Marthanda Varma, King of Venad.
