This is why:

The cold fusion article describes a broad scope of low energy nuclear reactions. Historic use of the term should include the most recent change. Rossi for example doesn't consider his findings cold fusion but everyone else does. This is common knowledge to anyone who looked into the topic but the reader doesn't know this. His device also doesnt use paladium and requires just enough preheating to make the term "room temperature" dubious. Changing the article as a whole to reflect this is never going to be accepted just like that so we have to do it one step at a time. 84.106.26.81 (talk) 14:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

@84.106.26.81: You really do need a WP:RS for that. I think also that widening the scope of the article to include newer (and much, much crazier) ideas than the Fleischmann–Pons claims requires some sort of a consensus of editors on the talk page for that article. Note that in the lede of the article, we specifically say: "This article is about the Fleischmann–Pons claims of nuclear fusion at room temperature. For the original use of the term 'cold fusion', see Muon-catalyzed fusion. For all other definitions, see Cold fusion (disambiguation). - thereby indicating that we aren't talking about the wider uses of the term - which are well-covered in the other places linked from the article title.
