He and fourteen other blacks joined the Honorable Society of Free and Accepted Masons of Boston in 1775. Years later they formed their own lodge, the African Lodge No. 1. When Hall died, in 1807, the lodge was renamed to Prince Hall Grand Lodge in honor of its founder.
