A stallion is an ungelded male horse after reaching the age of sexual maturity, usually between two and three years of age who can be used for breeding.
Temperament
Though useful for stud, a stallion can be very snappish and nasty, which gives him a reputation as untrustworthy. You can never completely trust a stallion because their natural instincts make them unpredictable. the Lippazanner stallions are perhaps the most famous studs.
The Use For a Stallion
Many stallions are used to produce more and better of the breed. For example, many race horse stallions have a large Media:stud fee, because it has won many races on the race track. But the foal could also be a good racer, something (s)he might have inherted from his/her sire. But if some stallions do not do well in what they were trained for, the are gelded and sold.
