Garry Meier , legal name Gary Meier, was a Chicago-based radio talk show host, he has not worked since late 2003.
Meier started out as a DJ at WFYR in 1973, then moved to WYEN in 1974. He left WYEN in 1977 and was out of radio until joining the Loop in 1979 as their overnight jock, where he eventually was hired by morning man Steve Dahl to be his sidekick and years later they were billed as "Steve & Garry". During their tenure at the Loop (1979-81), the team was number one and continued that success at WLS AM & FM from 1981 through 1986 in afternoon drive. In 1986 they returned to WLUP the Loop AM 1000 and then FM 97.9. They later shifted back to mornings on WLUP until Garry quit the show in 1993 upon returning from his honeymoon. One of Steve and Garry's most famous events was Disco Demolition July 12, 1979 in which although Garry did not participate in nor plan he indeed was an attendee.
In 1994, Meier hosted middays at the Loop for three months before being fired due to low ratings and he was also sporadically a feature reporter at WGN-TV for a short time. In 1996, after nearly two years of unemployment WLS AM forged a partnership with Roe Conn. Both shows with Dahl and Conn were highly rated, the latter topping the ratings for seven straight years. Garry quit the Roe & Garry show due to not being paid as much as Conn. This is also reported to be the same reason he quit the Steve & Garry show some 10 years earlier. It has been reported by both former partners that Garry Meier's wife - who is now his agent - is responsible for the demise of the partnerships, something Garry denies. He instead blames the behavior of Steve Dahl in the first case, and Disney/ABC Management in the second. Garry wouldn't accept WLS's offer $12 million over 10 years. Garry has not worked since his wife became his agent in late 2003. Both Roe and Steve have continued their shows since Meier's departure, and are both still quite successful. Garry continues to be in a legal battle with his former agent, Todd Musburger, who claims he was not paid for making the $12 million over 10 year deal with WLS.
