Jesús Huerta de Soto Ballester (born 1956) is an Austrian School economist and Professor of applied economics at King Juan Carlos University of Madrid, Spain.

Soto received a Bachelor of Laws and a Degree in Economics and Business from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1978; a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University in 1983; and a Doctor of Laws in 1984 and a PhD in Economics and Business in 1992 from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 2009 the Universidad Francisco Marroquín awarded Soto an honorary doctorate.

Soto received a chair in political economy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1985 and taught free market economics there for a number of years. In 2000 he became a full professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.

Huerta de Soto is affiliated with the Ludwig von Mises Institute and a member of the editorial board of the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics He also has been a member of the Board of Trustees of associated with the Instituto Madrileño de Estudios Avanzados (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies – IMDEA), the Juan de Mariana Institute in Madrid. He was Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the Mont Pelerin Society from 2000 to 2004. He has made introductory remarks at a panel discussion at the Juan de Mariana Institute in Madrid.

In a tribute to Murray N. Rothbard, Soto described the influence the economist had on his thinking and his personal relationship with Rothbard over many years.

Soto has edited Spanish language editions of two works of Austrian economist Friedrich Hayek.
