The town lies beside a natural harbour and the Macgillicuddy's Reeks on the Dingle peninsula, a large peninsula south of the River Shannon and north of the Ring of Kerry.
Principal industries in the town are tourism and fishing.
The city of Liverpool, England has a district called Dingle, a traditionally Protestant area. The UK BBC television series 'Bread' was filmed here on location. It was written by Carla Lane.
The town has many opportunities to hear traditional celtic music.
