"FU"
Song

"FU" is a song by American recording artist Miley Cyrus featuring American rapper French Montana for her fourth studio album Bangerz (2013). It was written and produced by Rami Samir Afuni, with additional songwriting provided by Cyrus, Montana, and MoZella. Cyrus has performed the song during her ongoing Bangerz Tour.

Background

In 2012, Cyrus announced plans to focus on her film career, effectively putting her musical endeavors on hiatus. That year, she appeared in the films LOL and So Undercover. She was also confirmed as a primary voice actress in the feature film Hotel Transylvania, but dropped out of the project to coordinate a musical comeback. In January 2013, Cyrus ended her recording contract with Hollywood Records, under which she released the albums Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), Breakout (2008), Can't Be Tamed (2010), and EP The Time of Our Lives (2009). Later that month, she signed a recording contract with RCA Records. In March, she confirmed that her fourth studio album would be released by the end of 2013. The final product, Bangerz, was released in October 2013 and debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 270,000 copies.

"FU" was used in the 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show which also received mixed feedbacks by viewers and critics.

Critical reception

Emily Longeratta of Hollywood Life gave the song a mixed review, saying "It contains a huge amount of abbreviations, but for some reason works." However, Jason Lipshutz of Billboard gave the song a negative review, criticizing French Montana's brief appearance, saying "French Montana's brief appearance... is just as inexplicable as the song itself."

Live performances

Cyrus has performed "FU" without Montana on her headlining Bangerz Tour; it was the sixth song performed during the first showing in Vancouver on February 14, 2014.

Charts

The song was unable to reach the Billboard Hot 100 but was able to debut at No. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and at No. 22 on Billboard's Pop Digital Songs Chart. Before the song was used in the '2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' the song reach the No. 1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. In Canada, the song debuted at No. 85 on the Canadian Hot 100.
