Succession of Mohammed Burhanuddin

Main article: 53rd Syedna succession controversy (Dawoodi Bohra)

Mufaddal Saifuddin is considered the 53rd Da'i al-Mutlaq by the mainstream of Dawoodi Bohra. His succession of his father Mohammed Burhanuddin is disputed, though, by the latter's half-brother Khuzaima Qutbuddin, who has challenged Mufaddal's right to be Dā'ī in court. The followers of Saifuddin have excommunicated Qutbuddin and his faction.
