The Taoni is a Rajput subclan who, together with the Chauhan, dominated a region now in Ambala district, Haryana until the period of the Mughal Empire.
History and origin
The Taonis being Bhati Rajputs claim Yaduvanshi Rajput ancestry. According to the traditions of the tribe, their eponymous ancestor, Rai Tan, was a grandson of the famous Raja Sálbán of Sialkot. One of the descendants of Rai Tan, Rai Amba is said to have founded the city of Ambala.
